Who can apply?
All applicants should be students or recent graduates from a university in an English speaking country. They should also be able to commit to the planned dates for the OSCA schedule (see the info for the project you are interested in) including interviews and pre-departure training events.
How much does it cost?
OSCA offers funded places, with accommodations provided for the duration of the camp, and funding for flights, visas and meals.
The funding for the camps ultimately comes from the students in Asia who enrol in the camps. We keep costs as low as possible to make the camps affordable to students from as wide a variety of backgrounds as possible. For example, flight funding is set to be enough to get the cheapest flight possible if one is flexible with dates.
OSCA is a charity and does not provide funding for social expenses. We don’t think families in Asia should fund nights out for Oxbridge students!
OSCA and our local partners organise a large number of social events which are highly recommended as they are an important part of the cultural exchange experience. These events are hugely varied, from sushi or dumpling cooking classes to sightseeing trips to the Great Wall of China. From visiting local temples and onsen to hiking adventures to remote beaches and mountains. Social activities in Asia often revolve around food, so there are also frequent food-based social events in all of our camps. How much money volunteers spend on social events and outings during OSCA varies across locations and from volunteer to volunteer.
I'd like to apply, but I'm not yet certain that I can commit myself. What should I do?
We’ll be asking you to make a decision by mid-February. If you will know by then whether you will be able to commit yourself or not, apply!
Are the host countries dangerous?
In general, no. Please consult the FCO information on your country of interest for more information.
